Before you ask who loves you, pause and ask yourself, how do I feel about myself?
When you make a mistake, do you criticize yourself immediately?
When a presentation does not go well, or something small goes wrong during the day, what does your inner chatter sounds like?
That inner voice matters more than we realize.
The way you speak to yourself shapes how worthy, capable, and lovable you feel.
Many people struggle to feel lovable, not because of how they look,
but because growing up, achievements were rewarded and made them feel valued, while mistakes were criticized or punished, sometimes subtly, sometimes deeply.
Every time we are tough with ourselves, we quietly chip away at our own sense of worth.
Being a little gentler does not mean lowering standards. It means responding with awareness instead of attack.
And that shift not only improves how we relate to others, but it also improves our ability to receive love fully.
I particularly love the “Mirror Exercise”
In the morning, stand in front of your mirror, smile and say out loud and 3 things you love about yourself. It could be simple phrases like:
“You are amazing!”
“You really know how to keep patience with annoying people. I am proud of you!”
“Yesterday, you made a mistake in the way you handled your irritating boss. But you have now learnt how to tackle him and will be ready with any situation you come up with. It’s ok. Kudos to you!”
(Note how being gentler with your mistakes keeps your self-worth intact)
Just be kind to yourself. Train yourself in how to behave so that your inner peace is not disturbed.
What if you could rewrite those internal rules?
- Start small.
- The next time you make a mistake, pause.
- Notice your reaction.
- Choose not to label.
- Choose not to attack yourself.
- Just let it pass.
Love, whether for yourself or others, begins with how you treat yourself.
When things don’t go your way, how do you normally speak to yourself?
