When you don’t want something, you want something else in place of it, right?
So when you want to break an unwanted habit, do you want to replace it with something?
Question yourself?
I have this habit. I don’t want it. How does it make me feel?
Do I want to feel this way?
How do I want to feel?
So HOW am I going to THINK to be able to feel the way I want to?
Let’s get straight to the point:
5 sure shot ways…
- STOP saying, thinking, feeling: “I give up!”
- REPLACE the unwanted, with the wanted. Do it.
- START saying, thinking, feeling: “I can do this!”
- CONTINUE saying, thinking , feeling “Let’s keep going!”
- REWARD yourself for small wins.
Watch how your dipping motivation rises as unwanted habits start dipping!
And wanted habits start taking over you.
Let’s take an example. You want to give up smoking.
- Stop saying “Gosh, forget it. I can’t give up smoking.” This makes you feel sad, frustrated, discontented with yourself. And you don’t want to feel this way, right?
- You want to instead, feel happy, contented and proud of yourself. So every time you feel like smoking, distract yourself by doing something active: taking a walk, having a healthy smoothie, talking with a friend or whatever gives you the feeling of satisfaction and joy.
- Keep saying to yourself repeatedly ”I love myself. I can do this. Keep going. Give it up, give it up.” Close you eyes and imagine yourself healthy, with clean lungs, and a carefree longer life.
- Continue saying and doing all this, each time you want to pick up that cigarette.
- Reward yourself for every time you resist the urge to smoke.
Sounds too easy? We, as a human race tend to think only complicated methods are effective. The fancier the method, the more effective it promises to be.
Don’t complicate.
Do it easy. Powerful.
